Electrical Engineer-Malaysia

ROLE PURPOSE:
  • This position is required to support multiple assets across the business unit and provide electrical engineering expertise and knowledge.
  • Project assignments range from concept, front end engineering, detail engineering, procurement, construction, transportation, installation and commissioning.
  • This position also provides expertise with respect to capital projects and existing assets in areas of electrical engineering design, electrical generation and distribution system, electrical equipment, electrical system monitoring and control, and electrical installation and construction.

  • Ensure contractor compliance with the HSSE aspects of project engineering procedures
  • Demonstrate exemplary commitment to MP’s HSSE goals and culture.
Function
  • Implement local and international design codes and practices to comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Implement company electrical engineering related procedures, philosophies and specifications in line with current industry codes and best practices.
  • Assist lead/senior electrical identify improvement opportunities for assets within the business unit.
Engineering
  • Assist in development of electrical philosophies, basis and/or premises.
  • Review and/or develop electrical design drawings like single line diagrams, control schematics, electrical equipment layout, lighting and small power layout, cable ladder/tray layout, earthing layout, installation details, electrical bulk materials, wiring and termination diagram, electrical block diagram, loop diagram, hazardous area classification, cable schedule, and fabrication/construction drawings.
  • Review and/or develop specifications and data sheets for electrical equipment like HV switchgear, LV switchgear/MCC, transformers, electrical cables and busduct, UPS, navigational aids system, electric motor, electrical monitoring and control system (EMCS), electrical process heater, electrical hear tracing, electrical packaged equipment, load shedding system (LSS), gas turbine generator and diesel engine generator.
  • Review electrical technical documents, reports, and calculations like electrical load list, load flow study, short circuit study, motor starting analysis, harmonic analysis, transient stability analysis, electrical equipment and cable sizing, protection relay setting and coordination,
  • Capable of managing electrical construction, fabrication and installation activities at fabrication yards and offshore worksite.
  • Ensure all designed installations by contractor/fabricator are fit for purpose and that the installation is implemented in line with the design.
  • Review and provide timely relevant input to installation and construction procedures, methodologies, shop drawings, etc.
  • Provide electrical engineering support to other engineering disciplines, HSSE, QA/QC, construction, procurement, and commissioning.
  • Participate and provide discipline input in design reviews and workshops like HAZOP, HAZID, ELSOR, Constructability Review, Alarm Rationalisation, PDMS Review, etc.
  • Review and/or prepare technical bid evaluation report for electrical equipment and materials.
  • Vendor data review of electrical and other discipline equipment, packages and materials.
  • Participate in FAT, SAT, mechanical completion testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up activities.
Project
  • Assist in preparing scopes of work in relation to the electrical discipline and interfaces, and review and evaluate technical submissions prior to award.
  • Assist in overseeing electrical works performed by consultants, contractors and suppliers to ensure timely completion, and compliance with the technical specifications and contract/purchase order.
  • Management of electrical equipment/material vendors to evaluate technical bids, review vendor documentation, and attends factory acceptance tests and pre-commissioning field tests for the full range of electrical equipment/materials.
  • Assist in reviewing and coordinating electrical works for both onshore and offshore, and provide instructions and guidance to construction personnel on technical issues in line with the project requirements whenever required by electrical lead.
  • Assist in Managing electrical projects of moderate size and scope.
General
  • Participate in project meetings, interface meetings and design reviews.
  • Monitor the activities of contractors to ensure compliance with specifications and procedures and with the project objectives for safety, quality, productivity, and schedule.
  • Raise and discuss key or critical technical issues with the Senior/Lead Electrical Engineer and construction team to develop cost effective solutions, using best operating practice and current industry design criteria.
Job Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge & Qualification
  • A bachelors' degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) as a graduate engineer.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of electrical system design and philosophies, electrical theories and calculations, electrical generation and distribution system, electrical control and monitoring, electrical equipment specification and technical evaluation, electrical construction and installation, and electrical testing and commissioning,.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the full project cycle from concept development through to installation, commissioning and start-up.
Experience
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in electrical design, construction and/or commissioning of offshore oil and gas facilities.
  • Experience of working as part of a multi discipline team for facilities engineering projects and/or offshore development projects.
